All of our Buddhi Threads garments are created by our hand-picked artisans and taylors in  Karnataka and Gujarat India.

We don’t take the decisions and choices behind our products lightly. That’s why we have hand-selected ethical block printing communities, dyers and tailors to support us on this journey. And we revisit the artisan communities regularly.

Each of our partners elevates the lifestyle of their community, honours their artisans with fair work and pay conditions, and does their bit to reduce their impact on the environment we live in.

Our products are like no others on the market. The production is super slow. And every finished garment involves hand carving of the wooden blocks, hand mixing the all-natural dyes or preparing the plant dye recipes and hand block printing across multiple steps and layers.

Hand block printing is a traditional Indian craft. And each design comes with its own technique. You can find out more about each design in the product descriptions.

Every product is dyed and printed by hand, which means it comes with a natural variance. Hand-mixed dyes can vary from garment to garment as the environmental changes. Block printing is a block-by-block process that can lead to slight variations in the execution even when it comes to the best trained artisans. We think that only adds to the unique character of your chosen product.

At Buddhi Threads, we only use organic, plant-based or GOTS-friendly dyes in line with our sustainable practices.

We use 100% cotton fabric and organic cotton where stated.

Basically, we cut out the middle man.

We work directly with a small handful of family-run block printing communities, dyers and tailors who are at the forefront of ethical practices in their trade. All our partners in India meet our ethical standards, have eco-practices in place, conserve water and minimise waste. Each of our partners have different initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing of their artisans and their broader communities. One of our main block printing commnities operates as a social enterprise and they are the only handblock print studio in India to have the NEST Ethical Artisan Seal of compliance.

On occasion.  Mostly, we price our products for their value and the countless artisan hours it takes to make the product.

Working directly with artisanal families and communities in India gives us the unique opportunity to know our sources and work with communities side by side ensuring ethical trade, a good wage and comfortable working conditions. That’s what we invest in instead.
